Grand opera in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | Libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder
Performed in German with German and French surtitles
The story of Tamino, who is commissioned by the Queen of the Night to rescue her kidnapped daughter Pamina from Sarastro's kingdom, is about first love and an adventurous journey. He is accompanied by the unlikeable Papageno, who also seeks love. He must endure complicated family ties, overcome dangerous obstacles, and realize that life has far more truths to offer than right and wrong, good and evil, black and white.
With all its wonders and contradictions, Mozart's coming-of-age fairytale is a kaleidoscope full of fascinating images and enchantingly beautiful music. After her playful, animal-filled "Don Pasquale," director Susanne Lietzow and her team return to Saarbrücken to explore the mysteries of "The Magic Flute."
